I am so inspired and honored to share this performance with all of you!
Here's the Inside Scoop:
A few weeks ago Santa Barbara dancer extraordinaire Beth Amine posted this video of her students, independent living seniors, performing a number from A Chorus Line. It made my day.
Who am I kidding, it made my year. I started SB Dance Sugar to promote, inspire and support all central coast dancers. All of them. No exceptions. And these women were absolutely the kind of dancers we need to celebrate – they were rockin’ it!!!!
I investigated a little further (and by “investigated” I mean I reached out to Beth Amine), and got the backstory on this lively group. They are part of Beth’s Joyous Movement class, which is a dance fitness class for Seniors. Beth offers the class to independent living individuals as well as those with Alzheimer’s and dementia and their caregivers through Joyous Movement classes and instructional DVDs.
Six of the women featured in the video are in their nineties, and over the past year they’ve gone from barely standing to dancing and moving leg kicks! Here are some additional photos of their rehearsal and the post-performance celebration:
Thank you, Beth, for everything you do for our community’s dancers, especially those who might not otherwise be invited to the dance floor!
